Donate to the Buy Black Power building, site of the economic engine of the African Independence Workforce Program (AIWP)—Now through May 8th
The African Independence Workforce Program (AIWP) is an important component of the dynamic Black Power Blueprint, transofrming the West Florissant Corridor of North St. Louis.
AIWP provides men and women returning from the colonial prison system the opportunity to intern with Black Power Blueprint programs including the Gary Brooks Community Garden, the 94.1 FM Community Radio Station, the Uhuru Bakery & Cafe and more.
Through these internships, participants will learn skills including urban farming, marketing, videography and photography, radio producing and engineering, culinary skills and more.
The Buy Black Power building on Natural Bridge Road in North St. Louis is the newest addition to the Black Power Blueprint suite of programs. It is called “Buy Black Power” because it will be a retail store, artists’ workshop space and training center, focusing on products make by our community, that are supporting power in our community!

- African infants in St. Louis are 3.3 times more likely to die than white infants. This is equivalent to losing 8 kindergarten classes per year.
- The mortality rate of African newborns is cut in half when cared fo by African health practitioners, including doulas and midwives.
- African women in Missouri are four times more likely to die in child birth compared to white women!
